SwissTransfer alternative: what works past 50 GB
SwissTransfer stops at 50 GB per transfer. Checked on 9 October 2026: who goes further, on what terms, and what the subscriptions opposite actually cost.
The short answer. SwissTransfer has the highest free ceiling around — 50 GB per transfer — but it is a wall: above it, nothing goes through. Opposite, WeTransfer Free stops at 3 GB and Smash guarantees 2 GB without queuing.
To go past 50 GB there are two routes: a monthly subscription (Smash Pro, WeTransfer Ultimate up to 1 TB per transfer), or toobigtoshare, up to 2 TB per transfer, with no account and no subscription.
Why people look for a SwissTransfer alternative
Rarely out of dissatisfaction. Almost always for one of three reasons: the file is bigger than 50 GB, the link expires too soon, or the email verification gets in the way.
The getting-started guide published by Infomaniak, which runs the service, puts it plainly:
This verification is only performed once per device (it is saved in your browser).
That is honest, and it is a small ask: one address to confirm, once, on each device. But it does mean that sending from a client's computer, a lab machine or a hotel desktop goes back through your inbox — and that your address is requested somewhere after all.

Every cell comes from the provider's own page: SwissTransfer's home page and the Infomaniak guide, WeTransfer's “Plan limits” help article, Smash's pricing page.
| Per transfer | Account | Link lifetime | Above that | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SwissTransfer | 50 GB | No, address verified once per device | 15 days, extendable to 30 | Nothing: that is the ceiling |
| WeTransfer Free | 3 GB | Yes | 3 days at most | Starter, then Ultimate up to 1 TB per transfer |
| Smash Free | 2 GB without queuing | No | up to 7 days | A queue, or Pro: unlimited size, 30 days |
| toobigtoshare | 2 TB | No, and no address asked | 3 days, date and time shown | — |
One row deserves a second look: WeTransfer Free adds a monthly quota of 10 transfers or 3 GB in total per rolling 30 days. Three one-gigabyte sends and the month is spent.
Past 50 GB, who does what
- Smash Pro lifts the size limit and takes the link to 30 days — for a monthly subscription.
- WeTransfer Ultimate accepts up to 1 TB per transfer with no transfer counter — monthly as well.
- toobigtoshare accepts up to 2 TB per transfer and is paid per transfer: $5.49, once, with nothing to cancel.
That is the real trade-off. A studio delivering every week amortises a subscription. A photographer delivering one wedding a month, a camera operator handing over footage four times a year, someone sending a backup — they pay twelve months for three transfers.
What changes when the file is genuinely large
Above 50 GB, three details stop being details.
Resuming after a drop. A 100 GB upload runs for hours. If it restarts from zero at every blip, it never lands. Here it resumes where it stopped.
The deletion date. “15 days” or “7 days” leave a question open: from when? We show the deletion date and time, visible to the person receiving as well.
What the recipient is asked for. On all three services compared here they click and download. The friction sits on the storage side: a Drive or OneDrive link can demand a sign-in, sometimes an access request.
Sending more than 50 GB, with no account and no subscription
toobigtoshare takes up to 2 TB per transfer. Upload the file, get a link, send it however you like: email, message, Slack. No account on either side, and no email address asked for — neither yours nor the recipient's.
One price whatever the size: $5.49 per transfer, no volume tiers and no monthly quota. The file is deleted after 3 days, on a date and time shown in advance.
Send a large file with toobigtoshare — up to 2 TB, no account, no subscription.
